As a huge Disney fan (and a champion of staying home to binge tv shows), Disney+ is my most favorite thing ever! Now that I’m quarantined and working from home for the next few weeks, I’m taking full advantage of it and spending a lot of time streaming some of the amazing shows and movies that are on there.
I wanted to share my favorite picks to help you figure out what to watch next!
+ The Imagineering Story – If there was one show I would recommend to anyone who has Disney+, this would be it! This series details how the Imagineering department was created at Disney, how they built up the parks and the successes and failures they faced along the way. If you’re a fan of the parks and/or Disney history, you will absolutely love it!
+ Waking Sleeping Beauty – This is another documentary about Disney history that I found completely fascinating. This one talks about the Renaissance period of Disney Animation – when movies like Beauty and the Beast, Lion King and The Little Mermaid were released. There was a lot of tension and drama that plagued the studio at that time, but what these artists were able to produce are some of the most beloved Disney movies of all time, and changed the animation industry forever.
+ Frank and Ollie – Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston were two of Walt Disney’s Nine Old Men – the group of men who were the core animators for Disney Animation, and produced some of the greatest animated films the world has ever known. They reminisce and share secrets and insights into the making of those movies.
+ Boy Meets World – This is the first thing I watched on Disney+ when it first came out. Boy Meets World is still one of my favorite tv shows, and you can binge all 7 seasons.
+ The Lizzie McGuire Movie – This is what dreams are made of! Who doesn’t love seeing Lizzie McGuire live out your own dreams of finding a cute Italian boy and pretending to be a pop star? Yeah, me too.
+ Frozen II – Disney released this one early in response to the social distancing, so now is a great time to watch (or rewatch) it! Why not watch both Frozen and Frozen II while you’re at it?
+ Saving Mr. Banks – I think by now you can tell that I love Disney history. I love how Saving Mr. Banks shows how Disney made Mary Poppins, but also showed the emotional connection the author had to her character. Plus Tom Hanks playing Walt Disney is just incredible!
+ Any DCOM – Ok, when I say any DCOM, I really mean anything from the 90’s or early 2000’s, when Disney Channel was creating epic TV movies. Some of my favorites are Don’t Look Under the Bed, Smart House, Halloweentown, Zenon, Get a Clue, The Even Stevens Movie – and honestly almost all of them.
+ Aladdin (Live Action) – I really didn’t think I was going to like the Live Action version, but I actually loved it! It has enough elements from the original animation to make it nostalgic, but also some new twists that make it exciting. It’s just a really cute movie that will lift your spirits.
+ Pirates of the Caribbean – To me, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies are classics. The storylines and visuals are amazing and it reminds me of the ride at Disney, which makes me really happy! They have the first 3 movies so you can do a marathon.
