*Cue Nightmare Before Christmas music*
Halloween is right around the corner, you guys! No really, we’ve got like 3 weeks, but if you’re anything like me, you will put off nailing down a costume until a few days before and wonder why you didn’t plan ahead. It’s bound to happen. So this year I’m trying to be a bit more proactive about it. While I don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on a costume that I’d wear once, maybe twice – I really like to go all out and wow people. So, I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time researching some of the best costumes celebrities have worn to come up with some ideas for costumes that are not only 100% cool girl approved, but are also guaranteed to have that wow factor (and incite some jealousy, obvs).
Is there anything more fun than dressing up in a retro glam themed outfit? Nichole Richie and Kaia Gerber have both donned Studio 54 inspired costumes in the last few years and looked so chic it was ridiculous. Channeling the glamorous days of the celeb favorite Studio 54 is a sure fire way to get people to gawk at you and your costume. Incorporate glitter, gold, fur (faux, of course), and sky high platforms and you’ve got all the ingredients to pull off a seriously awe inspiring outfit. A perfect makeup look like this one is the perfect final touch. People will think you stepped right out of the 70s!
The Greatest Showman was a huge hit this year, especially among It Girls. I don’t know how many times I saw someone post an Insta Story with the movie music in the background. Researchers have also revealed that “The Greatest Showman Costume” has been one of the top Google searches this year. So, I threw together this costume, taking inspiration from Zendaya’s outfit. It’s more glamorous than a classic clown costume, but still perfect for the circus. Her outfit was purple, but you could make the costume whatever color you want – red, white, black, pink, blue, etc. it would work either way. Make sure you make your makeup a little more “showy” like this or this to really get the performer aspect across. For a fun twist, you could make yourself a dead circus performer!
Who doesn’t love a good gothic outfit? You get to wear all black and you don’t even have to smile – win/win. You can create the glamorous vampire look so many different ways, but the important thing to remember is a dark lip and hypnotic stare, that’s what really completes the whole look, no matter what other makeup you’ve done. I was channeling a classic 90s look with this costume (think: The Craft) and I’m really in love with it. I would do a makeup look like this one to complete the costume. Extra points if you can get some real looking fangs!
I hope you guys enjoyed these halloween looks! I loved putting these together, it helped me really think about what I should choose for my costume.
What are you planning on going as for Halloween?
