Before you judge, hear me out…
Shaving your face is not a new concept for women, but people seem to think it’s a really taboo subject. Ladies, we all have hair on our face, it’s natural! Even if you don’t have a lot of facial hair, shaving your face has so many benefits for your skin that it’s worth looking into.
Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and Cleopatra all shaved their faces, so there’s that. It helps your makeup go on smoother and exfoliates your skin, and we all know exfoliating is the key to good skin. It also helps products seep into your skin better and gives you a gorgeous glow.
I’ve always been on the “hairer” side. On my face I have a lot of thick, blondish peach fuzz that is incredibly noticeable in photos. I have always hated the peach fuzz on my face, and I’ve been wanting to go and get dermaplaning done to get it taken off as well as slosh off the dead skin on my face, but then I saw someone post about shaving their own face at home. Enter: the Tinkle. Not the best name, but they’re the cutest little razors, so I feel like I can overlook it.
I washed my face and then spritz it with my Caudalie Beauty Elixir to hydrate to my skin before touching it with the razor. Then, I gently glided the razor across my jawline, cheeks, forehead, upper lip, and the upper part of my neck. Afterwards, I put on the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, followed by a moisturizer. My face was SO smooth, a smoothness I never thought possible. You’ll want to touch your face constantly to remember just how smooth it is (but really don’t do that). Now, my makeup looks better, the skincare products I use seep into my skin better and my face has more of a glow.
I also wanted to answer some questions that I know I had before I started shaving my face, in case any of you also have questions.
Will your hair grow back darker? No! Your hair will not grow back darker or thicker. I actually had someone tell me this a few years ago when I wanted to start shaving my face, and it scared me out of it. But I haven’t experienced that at all.
How often should you shave your face? I guess it really depends on how fast your hair grows back. I can go with about once a week, maybe a week and a half, but everyone’s different. One you start feeling the smoothness on your face dissipating, I’d say that’s when it’s time to do some touch ups.
Does it hurt? Not at all! As long as you’re not rough with it, you shouldn’t feel any pain.
Face shaving really is awesome, but only do it if you feel comfortable doing so. There’s no reason to be scared about doing it either. I know I was at first, but it’s really super easy and will become a regular part of your beauty routine in no time.
